Each year, more than 30,000 students play the Stock Market Game in Georgia. With such a broad reach – from elementary through high school in public and independent schools from Rome to Cairo – the Game is the Georgia Council’s most visible program.
But while the students who win are often in the spotlight, winning isn’t everything. Waiting in the wings are teachers, students and graduates who cite all sorts of benefits. They will tell you how the Game helped them teach their students to use the Internet. Or how playing the Game in high school opened up a thrilling career path. Or how losing miserably taught them the importance of saving and investing toward a real-life goal. That’s why GCEE’s emphasis on teacher training is so important. Before they lead student teams, Georgia teachers get introductory training that encourages them to give their young investors the long-range view. The 500 veteran Stock Market Game teachers in Georgia are offered advanced training to hone their skills. The Georgia Council on Economic Education coordinates the game in Georgia. It is operated nationally by the Foundation for Investor Education. |
