Engaging students through application
The Georgia Council on Economic Education promotes a variety of economics and personal finance competitions designed to help students apply their knowledge in fun and engaging ways. Several of these competitions are the state-level qualifiers for national competitions.
Econ Games
The Georgia Council on Economic Education’s Econ Games is an exciting academic competition designed for 4th and 5th grade students to build economic and personal finance knowledge through teamwork and hands-on challenges. Student teams compete in engaging events such as an assembly line simulation, a critical thinking test, and a product pitch that encourage creativity, collaboration, and real-world problem solving. Econ Games helps students strengthen essential life skills while discovering that economics can be active, fun, and meaningful.
Economics Challenge
Georgia's division of the National Economics Challenge
The Economics Challenge, held each spring, is an academic competition for High School students. Over four rounds, students answer challenging questions where they demonstrate critical thinking in microeconomics, macroeconomics, international trade, and current events. Winning teams are eligible to move up regional and even national competitions.
Personal Finance Challenge
Georgia's division of the National Finance Challenge.
The Personal Finance Challenge has teams of high school students analyze a case study of a family’s finances in order to make recommendations for how to improve or maintain the family’s financial well-being. Students are given the case-study the day of the competition and have 90 minutes to analyze the study and prepare their presentation, which they present to financial industry experts.
Econ Games
4th and 5th grade students applying economics.
The Econ Games is a competitive event for fourth and fifth grade students. Over three rounds, the teams apply their knowledge of economics and personal finance by creating and participating in an assembly line, taking a critical thinking test, and developing and presenting an idea for a product that solves a real-world problem. The event is largely invitation-only at the moment. If you are interested in bringing a team, please contact Angie Battle.
Stock Market Game
An experience your students will never forget.
The Stock Market Game is an exciting simulation that gives students in grades 4-12 the opportunity to invest a virtual $100,000 for 10 weeks in real stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. At the end of the 10 weeks, teams with the highest total equity are eligible for a variety of prizes and awards.
