Honoring a commitment to education

The William J. VanLandingham Commitment to Education Award was created in 1993 to recognize the long-time commitment of William "Bill" VanLandingham (1937-1993) to education in general and to the Georgia Council on Economic Education in particular. He played an instrumental role in the evolution of the Georgia Council, which combined two things he loved: business and education. Criteria for the award include a long-term commitment to education in a variety of settings.

Bill VanLandingham joined the Council’s board and executive committee in 1978 and chaired the nominating committee beginning in 1983. He became the Council’s first vice chair in 1986 and served as chair from 1988 to 1990. He also co-chaired the Council’s 1989-1991 support campaign.

Selection Process

An annual call for nominations is sent to the Georgia Council’s Board of Trustees. Once received, the Board’s Communications Committee screens nominations and then presents them to the Council’s Executive Committee. In the absence of a suitable nominee, the award is not presented. For information about how to submit a nomination, contact David Martin.
