Workshop Grades 9–12

Payments are part of every person’s economic life, everyone thinks about “ways to pay.” However, most consumers never consider the vast infrastructure that allows money to flow between consumers, businesses, banks, and credit unions. The Federal Reserve has been in the business of facilitating payments since its inception. Payments evolved over the 20th century with the advent of widely available electronic payments and continued with the release of the new instant payment network, FedNow, last year. Alex Romeo, Vice President of Operations Strategy at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, has over 40 years of experience in payments in the private sector and at the Fed.
